1395029 Making carton lids RENGO KK and DAI NIPPON INSATSU KK 27 July 1972 [24 Feb 1972] 35272/72 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] Blanks 22 for carton lids are fed by belts 56 and delivered on to the tops of filled cartons 213 supplied by a conveyer 90 and delivered to a lifting plate 77, the plate 77 being subsequently raised and guide members 127, 128, 129 folding the edges 208, 212 and flaps 209 of the lid to their assembled positions. The flaps 209 have previously been coated with adhesive by rollers 155. The carton and lid are held by a pawl in guides 125 and subsequently delivered to a further conveyer 204 by a horizontal piston and cylinder device. The blanks are fed from a magazine (Fig. 3) by a lug 28 operated by an air cylinder 30 and moved forward by feed rolls 39, 40. A frame 68 carrying a pusher 60 is lowered by an air cylinder 69 and engages the trailing edge of the blank and moves the blank forward. Numerous parts of the mechanism are adjustable by means of left and right hand screwed shafts so that the parts can be moved away from or towards the centre line of the machine. A lid can be erected without being simultaneously fitted on to a filled carton. In this case peripheral walls are fitted to the lifting plate so that the lid can be erected about the lifting plate.
