1415661 Emptying hoppers SINTERLITE Ltd and F P SOMOGYI 19 Jan 1973 [9 Feb 1972] 6066/72 Heading B8S [Also in Division B1] An apparatus for discharging particulate material from a container, e.g. a filtration column 2, comprises a plurality of traps 3 for gravitationally receiving material from outlet pipes 8 in the container 2, and a nozzle 10 in each trap, through which fluid is passed to eject material from the trap. Each trap 3 comprises an upstanding tube into which a pipe 8 extends, the height of the trap tube being sufficient to accommodate all the material discharging from the pipe 8 until an equilibrium height of the material in the trap tube is reached. Each nozzle 10 comprises a tube 15 having an inner passage 12 along which liquid is supplied to be discharged through apertures 11 and an outer surrounding passage along which pressurized air is applied to be discharged through apertures 16, both sets of apertures being shrouded by a cap 17. With injection of fluid into the traps, the material therein flows out over the top of the trap and down discharge passages 5 in a base-plate 1. In another embodiment the traps take the form of U-bends in the container discharge pipes. |
