A friction clutch assembly includes a thrust plate (1) and a coaxial circular leaf spring (5). When an axial force is applied to the outer edge of the spring (5), it toggles about a circular knife edge bearing (13) so that the centre of the spring is deflected in the opposite direction of the applied force. A thrust collar (4) between the clutch spring edge and the thrust washer (1) is located in an axial groove (12) on the thrust washer. The collar (4) is clamped to the washer (1) by means of a flange (9) on the collar, and a clamp ring (10) which is riveted to the thrust washer.
