<p>Delminolevulinic acid hydrochloride (i) is prepd. in 55 - 57 wt.% yields by acylating hippuric acid with a monoester of succinic acid chloride in a gamma-picoline medium, pref. at -5 to 0 degrees C, followed by hydrolysis of the resulting C-acyl deriv. and isolation of (I), pref. by dissolving in conc. HCl and precipitating with acetone. (I) is a precursor of vitamin B12, heme and chlorophyll and can be used inthe biosynthesis of vitamin B12 and porphyrins.</p> |
