Fungal metabolite sesquicillin - with anti-hypertensive activity

The fungal metabolite sesquicillin of formula (I) which has antihypertensive props. as well as oedema-inhibiting and anti-inflammatory activity, bronchospasmolytic activity and laxative activity, is produced by cultivating a new strain of the fungal species Sesquicillium globulisporum nov. spec. (pref. strain NRRL 5433) in a nutrient medium and isolating sesquicillin from the nutrient medium and purifying in a conventional manner.
