A flexible filled tube 1 (Fig. 1) is enclosed by rectangular cells 2 which weld and cut the tubing to form parallelepipedal satchets. In the form shown, guides 7 feed the tube between two conveyers carrying the cell halves 2, a projection 10 (Fig. 2, not shown), on one cell half engaging a depression 11 in the other. Flaps 3 (Fig. 4, not shown), connected to both ends of the cell halves 2 by hinges 21 and extending laterally of the cell halves, are moved inwards 90 degrees (Fig. 5) so that a welding jaw 13 with heating elements 17 on one flap and movable relative to the flap presses against rubber inserts 19 on the opposed flap to weld the tube. A knife 14 separates the satchets. The terminal lobes of the pack are spotwelded. Prior to sealing a gap g (Fig. 5) between the flaps allows excess material to escape to the satchet above.</p> |
