A buckle and tongue seat belt assembly. The buckle has a latch which passes through an opening in the tongue to engage a push-button actuated release member. To release the tongue, the user actuates the push button to permit the latch to move independently of the release member toward a release position. As the latch moves in its release motion, it biases the tongue toward removal from the buckle.
