A rubber floor covering (in sheet or panel form) has a planar base portion formed on its upper surface with parallel ribs arranged transversely to the direction of the main illumination incident on the upper surface. The ribs have a cross-section defined by an isosceles triangle of which the base angle in 50-60 degrees and the height is 0.5-0.15 mm. The ribs prevent reflected light showing up the uneven-ness of the surface thereby eliminating the necessity of dressing or flattening the floor on which the covering is laid.
