1347662 Asbestos diaphragms SIEMENS AG 28 Jan 1972 [29 Jan 1971] 4241/72 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions C7 and H1] An asbestos composition suitable for use in the manufacture of acid resistant diaphragms for electrochemical cells is produced by treating amplitude asbestos with an aqueous solution of a cation-active wetting agent to open out fibre bundles, removing non-opened out fibre bundles, preparing an aqueous suspension of the opened out asbestos fibres and a powdered swellable filler which is stable in acid electrolytes and is ion-conductive, admixing the suspension with an acid stable polymer dispersion and drying the so-formed mixture. Specified fillers are metals, metal oxides, zeolites, bentonites and cationexchangers. They preferably have a particle size of less than 100 Á. |
