The portions 3 grip the pipes 4 elastically and are secured to them by means of an adhesive. The sleeve parts 5 and 6 may be sealed together by a tapered spigot and socket joint (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) or by a lip 12 abutting an annular shoulder 13. Alternatively, an 0-ring (15) may be laterally compressed between telescopically engaging portions 5 and 6 (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown).
