Basic aluminium nitrates are heat-treated under reflux at a temperature between 100‹ C. and 200‹ C. for at least 8 hours to increase their effectiveness as heat stabilizers for polymers containing chlorine. The heat treatment is preferably carried out at 130-160‹ C. and the starting material may be Al(OH)(NO3)2.xH2O, Al(OH)2NO3.xH2O, or a mixture thereof. |
