1352665 Lathes; gauging HARDINGE BROS Inc 21 March 1972 [12 July 1971] 13140/72 Headings B3T and B3B In a lathe having a carriage 22 and a tool carrying assembly there is provided means for adjusting the position of the cutting tool horizotally and vertically to accurately align it with the lathe spindle axis, the carriage 22 being movable on a slide 20 in the direction of the axis of the lathe spindle 14 and is adjustable transversely of the spindle by tapered gibs 60, 62 acting on the dovetail sides of the slide 20, the gibs being longitudinally movable by screws which causes transverse movement of the carriage 22 relative to the slide 20. The carriage supports a swivel post 38 on which is mounted a tool support assembly 46 which is secured to the swivel post 38 by a tee bolt and guide locating in a tee slot 102 in the top surface of the swivel post 38. The tool support 46 includes a portion 112 fixed to the post 38 and a movable portion 116 which is actuated by a feed screw assembly to effect horizontal displacement of the portion 116 relative to the post 38. A cutting tool T mounted in a holder 150 is mounted to the portion 116 by co-operating vertical dovetail guides the holder being vertically displaceable by a feed screw, whereby the tool T is vertically adjustable relative to the post 38 and saddle 22. Dial gauges may be mounted on the various slide portions to permit by way of gauge members pre-setting of the tool position. |
