1352230 Vulcanizing polydichloroalkenamers MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 11 June 1971 [12 June 1970] 27468/71 Heading C3P Vulcanizable compositions comprise (A) 100 parts by weight of a linear polymer consisting predominantly of repeating units of formula where R is hydrogen, methyl or phenyl and n is 3 to 10, (B) 3 to 12 parts by weight of a basic condensate of ammonia, ethyl chloride and formaldehyde and (C) 10 to 40 parts by weight of magnesium oxide, zinc oxide or lead monoxide. The compositions may also contain carbon black and white fillers and/or plasticizing oils. The polymers may be prepared by chlorinating polyalkenamers. The compositions may be made into gaskets, transmission belts, pipes, cable insulation and container linings and vulcanized by heating at 120 to 220‹ C. for 1 to 120 minutes. Examples describe vulcanization of compositions comprising chlorinated polyoctenamer, basic condensate and (1-3 and 6-8) PbO and carbon black; (4) MgO and carbon black; (5) carbon black together with ZnO, PbO, MgO/ZnO, MgO/PbO or ZnO/PbO; (9) PbO and silica; (10) PbO and kaolin; (11 and 14) PbO, carbon black and chlorinated biphenyl; and (12 and 13) PbO, carbon black and plasticizers; and comprising PbO, carbon black and basic condensate together with (15) chlorinated polyheptenamer, (16) chlorinated dodecenamer, (17) chlorinated polypentenamer and ester plasticizer, (18) chlorinated poly-(3-methyl octenamer) and (19) chlorinated poly-(3-phenyl octenamer). |
