Tetralkylthiuram disulphide prepn - from sec. amines and carbon disulphide followed by hydroperoxide oxidn. in alcohol soln

Sec. amines R1R2NH (where R1 and R2 = 1-6C satd. alkyl) are reacted with CS2 in a soln. of a 1-4C satd. aliphatic alcohol solvent, followed by oxidn. of the dithiocarbamate formed with a hydroperoxide chosen from H2O2 alkyl - and aralkyl-hydroperoxides. The alcohol soln. has an essentially autogenous acid/base - state. No strong mineral acid is used and the process is relatively free from environmental pollution. Good yields, >=88% of relatively high purity prod. are obtd. The process is partic. used for the prepn. of Me4 thiuramdisulphide.
