The burner is mounted on a shaft which works in between sets of rollers. A side projection on this shaft carries a tube that slides inside a larger tube fastened to the housing in which the main shaft slides. The end of the inner tube is longitudinally slotted and is tapered inside to accommodate a rod which fits inside it and is similarly tapered. This rod is spring loaded so that it tapered end squeezes out the slotted end of the inner tube to clamp it to the outer tube, thereby locking this and the burner in position. The bottom end of the tapered shaft is connected to a cranked handle which is mounted in a tube that has the same diameter as the inner tube, the ends of which meet over an inclined surface. Turning this handle through 30 degrees withdraws the rod to free the inner tube from the casing, allowing its parallel burners mounting shaft to be moved on its rollers. Releasing the handle allows the spring to push the conical ended rod back up the tube to lock it once more in position. The operation of finely positioning the burner is greatly simplified since only the one handle is used.
