A transporting device, esp for plutonium-contg. fuel elements for nuclear reactors, comprises a supporting member to which the elements are fixed by stirrups or clamps and a leaktight vessel surrounding the elements. The vessel is a sheet metal container designed for the dimensions of the fuel element, and is firmly sealed, esp welded, after the element has been inserted; the vessel is also firmly clamped to the supporting member. The vessel sheet of metal is pref. sufficiently ductile to ensure that leakage does not occur through cracks in case of an accident during transportation. Pref. materials are titanium or chrome-nickel steel.
