Aromatic hydrogenation in presence of sulphur - using fluorided platinum catalyst and added carbon monoxide
摘要

A low-press. process for the hydrogenation of aromatic hydrocarbons in the presence of sulphur contaminants uses a fluorided platinum-alumina catalyst and carbon monoxide as a moderator. The operating conditions are hydrogen press. of 300-1000 psig (pref. 300-500 psig), 400-750 degrees F (pref. 550-750 degrees C), LHSV 0.2-5.0 (pref. 0.5-2.0). The carbon monoxide is added to the system at rate of 2.5 x 10-5 to 10 x 10-3 g. mole/hr/g catalyst (pref. 5 x 10-5 to 1 x 10-4 g. mole/hr/g catalyst). The pref. catalyst contains 0.1-10.0 wt.% Pt (pref. 0.5-2.0 wt.% Pt) and 0.5-15.0 wt.% F. Hydrocracking side reactions are inhibited and the need for prior desulphurisation stages in obviated. Process as applied to a marginal kerosene fraction contg. >15 vol. % aromatics for upgrading to jet fuel quality.
