1378255 Catalyst solutions or suspensions in particulate propylene polymerization BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 15 Dec 1972 [18 Dec 1971] 57931/72 Heading C3P Propylene is polymerized in a stirred bed of particulate polypropylene using a Ziegler-Natta polymerization catalyst system, which is introduced to the polymerization zone in solution or suspension in a liquid hydrocarbon medium comprising (a) 100 parts of an aliphatic hydrocarbon oil having a boiling range of 140‹ to 210‹ C., (b) 1 to 50 parts of o-, m 1- or p-xylenes or a mixture thereof and (c) 0 to 15 parts of one or more other alkyl benzenes having up to 4 alkyl groups per benzene ring. The process is suitably carried out at 50‹ to 100‹ C., a pressure of 20 to 60 atmospheres, and using a catalyst of (A) the product of ball-milling TiCl 3 .<SP>1</SP>/ 3 AlCl 3 and hexamethylphosphoramide, and (B) an aluminium tri(C 1-3 )alkyl, e.g. Al(C 2 H 5 ) 3 . In the examples, (b) is p-xylene and (c) is absent or (b) is a mixture of o-, m- and p-xylenes and (c) is a mixture of diethylbenzene, methylethyl benzene and trimethyl benzene, and the process is carried out continuously. |
