Ammonia synthesis reactor - with simplified construction, extended operating life and lower power consumption

In the reactor for the catalytic synthesis of NH3 at high temp. and pressure as well as for other exothermic reactions taking place under similar conditions, e.g. methanol synthesis; is incorporated. (a) square section rods provided in the heat exchanger tubes; (b) for the cooling of the catalytic zone an assembly of cooling systems consisting of three normally concentric tubes used in the catalyst layer; (c) a spray catcher with metal sieves provided in the interspace of the heat exchanger at the synthesis gas inlet; (d) for topping up setted down catalyst, tubes welded to the cover of the inner body, and (e) a bellows-type distributor chamber provided to prevent by-passing and give operational stability.
