Iron is recovered from a ferrous dross in an acid lined converter contg. a small amt. (e.g. 2 tonnes) of opt. carburised ferrous metal, by progressively pouring in the liq. charge to be reduced, while adding C, as close as possible to the point of impact of the charge on the metal and blowing a highly oxidising gas (e.g. O2) into the space above the metal bath in sufficient quantity to burn the CO released by the reduction. The contents of the converter are rotaters to the converter during the major part of the blow.
|
