Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for measuring the quality of the Internet. According to the present invention, the apparatus for measuring the quality of the Internet comprises a packet generation part, a packet transmission and reception part, a packet counting part and a quality information calculation part. The packet generation part generates a series of packets for a test, which are configured to be looped back in a gateway for connecting a subscriber terminal to an Internet backbone network when transmission is performed through the subscriber terminal of a subscriber of an Internet service. The packet transmission and reception part transmits the series of packets for a test to the gateway through the subscriber terminal and receives the packets for a test, looped back in the gateway. The packet counting part counts each of a number of the transmitted packets for a test and a number of the received packets for a test. The quality information calculation part calculates transmission time information of the transmitted packets for a test, reception time information on the received packets for a test, and Internet quality information on a subscriber section from the subscriber terminal to the gateway by using count value information of the packet counting part. Upload quality and download quality is all measured by the subscriber terminal without using an additional measuring server, and costs for constructing an Internet quality measuring system is saved. Moreover, accuracy and reliability in measuring quality of the subscriber section is maintained and improved, regardless of change in the amount of traffic of the Internet backbone network. |
