The premature vulcanization of polychloroprene rubber composition containing a metal oxide vulcanizing agent and a thioruea vulcanization accelerator of the formula IN WHICH (A) EACH OF R1 and R4 independently is a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon group and each of R2 and R3 is a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon group, (b) R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a saturated cyclic group and R3 and R4 are the same as before, or (c) R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a saturated cyclic group and R3 and R4 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a saturated cyclic group, is inhibited by incorporation of an N-(thio)substituted carboxylic imide.
