<p>The shaft contains means for vertical transport of cargo to and from the different deck levels and is connected with these levels by watertight hatches. The upper ship hull side door portion consists of two hinged sections which can be removed in upward direction. The lower door portion consists of a number of sections fitting one on top of the other, the assembly being watertight. One or more of these sections, starting with the topmost, can be easily removed, to provide access from alongside, to the shaft at the level determined by depth of vessel and height of quay.</p> |
