A plate having a supporting surface and a depending edge supports sheet material which is fed and slit concomitantly by a rotary slitter having an annular cutting edge defined by a beveled surface tapering toward and intersecting a flat surface extending at right angles to said supporting surface with the included angle between the beveled surface and said flat surface being approximately 30 DEG . The flat surface of the slitter is in closely spaced relation to said depending edge and the lower portion of the cutting edge is at an elevation subjacent the supporting surface.
