1465386 Scouring animal fibres SOUTH AFRICAN WOOL BOARD 19 July 1974 [26 July 1973] 32198/74 Heading C5D [Also in Division D1] Wool or mohair fibres are washed (scoured) with an emulsion containing water, a surfaceactive agent and as the sole non-aqueous solvent at least 4% by weight of a fibre grease solvent selected from the natural grease of an animal fibre, sunflower oil, liquid paraffin, oleine (i.e. crude oleic acid), castor oil, olive oil, neat's-foot oil or whale oil. Preferably the surfactant is a nonionic detergent in an amount 2-6% of the non-aqueous solvent. The non- aqueous solvent may comprise 4 to 50% by weight of the emulsion and is preferably the grease of the fibre being washed. Grease-rich solvent may be continuously or intermittently removed from the fibre washing bath maintained at 50‹ to 75‹ C. The treated fibres, which contain 2-8% of fatty matter, are washed with aqueous detergent and optionally with water, squeezed and dried, thereby reducing the fatty matter content to 0À8% |
