1431932 Oral preparations UNILEVER LTD 13 July 1973 [17 July 1972] 3351/73 Heading A5B Oral preparations for suppressing dental plaque and calculus formation comprise a carrier and one or more germicidal compounds of formula in which R, R<1> and R<2> each represent a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon chain having 1 to 30 carbon atoms, R<3> represents an alkyl group or hydroxyalkyl group having 6 to 30 carbon atoms, or an aryl, aralkyl or heterocyclic group, R<4> represents a saturated or unsaturated straight or branched hydrocarbon chain having 6 to 30 carbon atoms and m and n are either 1 or 2, the sum of m and n being 3. The germicidal compounds are preferably tetradecyltrimethyl ammonium alkyl phosphates such as di(hexadecylbenzyldimethylammonium) mono(2-ethylhexyl)orthophosphate, mono- or di-(tetradimethyltetradecyltrimethyl ammonium) di or mono-(2-ethylhexyl) orthophosphate and di(hexadecyl-benzyldimethyl ammonium) mono-n-octadecyl orthophosphate. The carrier may be a toothpaste or mouthwash. The germicidal compounds may be formulated with a nonionic, amphoteric or weakly ionisable substance. |
