A machine for closing and sealing erected cartons having extended articulated flaps, characterized by a readily adjustable glue-applying apparatus particularly suited for use in applying parallel ribbons of glue to multiple portions of selected flaps while the flaps are then outwardly inclined at angles greater than 90 DEG but less than 180 DEG with respect to their carton-closing positions. A particular feature of the invention inheres in the use of intermittently operated extrusion heads supported in planes defining included angles greater than 90 DEG and less than 180 DEG , with respect to a horizontal plane, for applying extruded ribbons of adhesive to outwardly inclined, articulated flaps of cartons preparatory to their being closed and sealed.
