The powder box has a dished circular lid (2) to which is glued a polyethylene ring (4) which has a lip retaining a mirror and a curved projection (17) which cooperates with a pair of projections (18) on the lid to form a recess receiving a hinge pin. The projections extend into a cut-out (11) of a polyethylene ring glued to a dished circular base, the ring retaining a pad of e.g. face powder. The cut-out is limited by a rear wall (14) and by the sides (12), (13) which have recesses (15), (16) receiving the ends of the hinge pin. The pin may be inserted when the lid is closed and the recesses are aligned.
