<p>A mixt. of blood proteins and animal fibre proteins is prepd. by forming a 1-25 vol. % soln. of the fibrous protein material in an alkaline soln. opt. contg. a reducing agent, at 40 degrees C and pH 12-13 for is not >24 hrs., adding liquid blood or dried blood product, opt. dissolved in water, to the soln. at 40 degrees C with stirring, using a blood N/protein N ratio of 1-10, pref. 1.5-3.0, precipitating the protein by addn. of strong (in)org. acids at pH 3.5-4.0 for max. yield, separating the powdery ppte. by filtration, centrifuging or otherwise and drying the prod. at 60-110 degrees C. The prod. is used as cattle foodstuffs, fillers for elastomers and other applications. The process makes use of slaughtering by-products e.g. blood, hairs, feathers etc., which were discarded in prior art and were a source of pollution.</p> |
