1396534 Diazotization of aromatic amines HOECHST AG 10 July 1972 [10 July 1971] 32123/72 Heading C2C Aromatic diazonium compounds are obtained by diazotizing aromatic amines with a compound containing a nitrosyl group, e.g. nitrosyl sulphuric acid or nitrosyl chloride, in a substantially anhydrous non-acidic medium comprising at least one heterocyclic base, e.g. pyridine, quinoline, picoline or lutidine. The weight of heterocyclic base used is preferably at least 5 times the weight of the amine to be diazotized. Examples are given wherein p-toluidine and 2- naphthylamine are diazotized.
