A distributor tray for packed or trickling columns described in the parent patent has all upstanding tubes on the tray machined to the same level after weld-distortion of the tray has taken place, each of these tubes carries a suspended internal tube esp. of expanded metal extending down to the packing or tickling unit below. The dia. of the column in the distribution region is greater than that in the packed or trickling regions. In present patent the distributor tray dia. is smaller than the local dia. of the column and the tray has a hanging skirt suspended from its periphery and formed of perforated material, esp. expanded metal, this skirt also extends to the packing/trickling surface. Used to reduce the flow resistance offered to the gaseous phase in the region of the distributor tray.
