1396902 Respiratory appliances VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT MEDITSINSKOGO PRIBOROSTROENIA 10 Aug 1972 37268/72 Heading A5T [Also in Division Bl] An evaporator for use in inhalation narcosis is adapted for blending a carrier gas with evaporable anaesthetics and comprises: a bypass duct 2 generally annular in cross-section; a frusto-conical obturator 3; an evaporating chamber 1 of substantially constant and generally annular cross-section surrounding the bypass duct and communicating therewith through inlet openings 14 and outlet openings 15, said chamber being provided with porous evaporating elements 20 and with a frustoconical effuser 8; and a control slide 11 located in the by-pass duct and mounted for movement between a first position in which it cooperates with the obturator to prevent gas flow through the by-pass duct and a second position in which it co-operates with the effuser to prevent gas flow through the evaporating chamber. A container 17 containing evaporable liquid anaesthetics is provided. The control slide is moved by means of the rotation of a nut 22 provided with a collar 24 carrying a scale. A jacket 19, filled with a thermostabilising liquid, and a thermometer 18 are provided. As shown, the evaporating elements 20 are in the form of porous, metal, channel-section bars. In alternative forms the evaporating elements may be tube-shaped or spiral-shaped.
