Tiles of any shape and surface roughness are produced by extrusion and are used for wall and floor coverings. A pliable green matl. which can be hardened or fired, e.g., concrete or ceramics, is extruded into long shapes, the cross-section of which corresponds with the desired cross-section of the tile. The long rod of tile matl. is then hardened or fired. The extruded rod which is now hard is then cut into slices of desired thickness to form tile. The surface roughness of the faces of the tiles is determined by the cutter used; the cutter may be a circular saw with a diamond impregnated cutting edge.
|
