1312425 Magnetic bearings M BAERMANN 21 Jan 1972 [27 Jan 1971] 3001/72 Heading F2A A magnetic bearing for axially supporting the rotor shaft 14 of an electricity meter comprises two cylindrical magnets 13, 15 which are so magnetized that like poles defining an air gap 4 are on one axial end face of each magnet while the other poles are on the peripheral surfaces of the magnets. The specification discusses the advantages of this arrangement which produces a purely radial magnetic field on a circle on which has a greater diameter than the permanent magnets. The magnet 13 is attached to the shaft 14, the magnet 15 being secured in a non-magnetic shell 16 which is adjustable vertically with respect to horizontal part 18 of the meter frame and which is formed with a tubular projection 23 limiting lateral displacement of the magnet 13. A bearing pin 21 attached to shell 16 co-operates with a bearing ring 21 and a bore 22 in the magnet 13 to limit axial displacement of the shaft 14. |
