<p>The device consists of a jacket or tube made of a burnable material and contg. a refractory bush with a central hole leading to the sample container; the front end of the bush has two mating surfaces, one for fixing the bush in the tube and the other for retaining a cup used as a homogenising chamber. The centre hole in the bush is counter-bored for receiving the inlet on the sample container, and the periphery of the bush mating with the outer tube or jacket is cut away to provide gaps. The bush is made of material which resists thermal shock, so it can withstand immersion in the molten metal, but breaks upon impact, the pref. refractory being based on cordierite. An extremely simple and inexpensive device which produces a homogeneous sample.</p> |
