Coal liquefaction with hydrogen or alkyl radicals - from cellulose basic auto-oxidation in absence of air

Cellulose decomspn. products used for coal liquefaction are produced by carrying out decomposing basic auto-oxidn. with addn. of alkaline earth metal hydroxides under exclusion of air, at 700-800 degrees C, which favours coal liquefaction. The process has the advantages that hydrogenating and alkylating components are supplied to coal or lower C cpds. as reactive, free radicals and the components consist mainly of alkyl not degraded as far as H. Ca(OH)2 or Mg(OH)2 are pref. homogenised within cellulose compsn., as basic materials for achieving cellulose auto-oxidn.
