Alpha, omega diamino long-chain alkanones prodn - by reacting amino acids, lactams or polyamides over an alkaline earth oxide fixed bed

Diaminoketones of formula (I) NH2(CH2)nCO(CH2)nNH2 (I) (n = 10-14) are prepd. by reacting an amine acid, lactum or the corresp. polyamide having a chain length (or repeating-unit length) of n + 1 on a fixed bed consisting of a mixt. of an alkaline cartl oxide (esp. CaO) and an inert granular material (esp. glass beads) at 250-380 degrees C. The starting material is first heated to the reaction temp. in a pre-heating zone. (I) where n = 10 or 11 are new cpds. (I) are crosslinking agents, esp. hardeners for epoxy resins and the carbonyl gp. may be reduced to give diamines used in prepn. of the semi-aromatic polyamides of FR 2153565. Reaction has high selectivity e.g. 80-100% at 280-330 degrees C.
