<p>The pinion (1) which engages with the steering rack (2) has a stub shaft extension (4) which runs on the needle rollers (7) in the cage (6) contained in the housing (5). The housing (5) has a domed end (8) which matches the curve of the ball (11). The thrust exerted by the pinion (1) is transmitted through the disc (13) to the ball (11) and both ball and disc are retained by the nylon ring (12) which is pressed into the housing. Three tongues (14) with increased flexibility due to local holes, grip the disc (13) and retain the ball in the housing and so simplify the assembly of the pinion (1) in the needle bearing.</p> |
