Catalyst for use in the preferential reaction of (I) cpds. contg. at least one epoxyethane gp., with (II) cpds. contg. >=1 proton with acidis props. selected from carboxylic acids and cyclic amides contains active chromium (III) tricarboxylate. Good stability. High activity. The catalyst is pref. the tri-2-ethyl-hexanoate, -oleate, -butyrate, or -benzoate. II is pref. a carboxylic acid.
