Safety system for occupants - with hinged padded restraining shells swung in front of occupants

Each car seat is fitted with a hinged restraining frame in front of the seat. The frame is padded on the seat side and provides a large area of cushioning contoured to fit the seat occupant. Each frame is hinged on a torsion hinge in the middle of the vehicle so that to leave the seat the frame is tipped upwards into the middle of the vehicle. The door side of the frame is secured by a catch linked to the door mechanism. A simple release lever unclips the spring loaded frame. The system replaces the seat belts, with the frame obscuring the view of the seat occupant when not fitted.
