The automatic window cleaning device comprises a horizontal wiper arm which extends over the width of the window pane and is positioned with its ends movable perpendicularly in vertical parallel guides mounted at the sides of the window. Spray elements for water and cleaning agent are mounted at the side and are directed towards the outside of the window panes so that as the window is wetted the dirt and water are taken up by the wiper arm as it moves up and down. The wiper arm is preferably provided with an electric motor and gears which causes drive rollers at the ends of the wiper arm to rotate thereby moving the wiper arm up and down. The controls for the motor and spray elements can be situated inside the building.
