The cathode electrode of the image intensifier tube carries a concave arcuated photocathode, between which and a luminescent screen electrode, is arranged a first anode whose electrons passing aperture on the photocathode side has a much smaller cross section and the photocathode surface. This first anode aperture is spaced from the centre of the photocathode by a distance forming preferably 1/4 of the electron wavelength. The diameter of this aperture is preferably 1/6 to 1/7 of the aperture spacing from the photocathode centre. The photocathode curvature radius is preferably 3/4 of that spacing. In operation, a voltage is applied to the first anode which is preferably 1/10 of the entire acceleration voltage applied to the tube.
|
