The apparatus is used for numerical determination of the intrinsic values of aggregates used in concrete, so that they can be used as factors in a mathematical formula to ensure consistency in concrete mixes. The process consists in putting a pre-determined quantity of aggregates into a container, measuring its volume, shaking it down on a plate and remeasuring its volume. Water is introduced from below until it reaches the upper edge of the compressed sample and its volume is measured. Water with a given pressure is then fed through the sample and flow is measured against a unit of time. Finally, the vessel is made air-tight, the water is sucked away and the vessel, aggregates and remaining moisture are weighted.
