The buffer store system is as in 2300991 and includes a matrix buffer store covering a sufficient length of time and a sufficient length of figures or data words for operation of the printer. Each position in the matrix corresponds to a given position on the final printout. The apparatus may be applied to printers or to a display apparatus with a cathode ray tube. In the rpinter alphanumeric symbols may be arranged in order on a continuously moving band, and the horizontal lines in the matrix carry the alphanumeric symbols in the same order as on the band. Each line is shifted sidways by one digit relative to the line above so that the vertical columns read from the top downward inthe same order.
