The dish washer comprises a housing with an inside container forming the washing chamber which on one side is shaped at the bottom to form a collecting trough to which is connected the pump for the water circulation. The water inlet opening for the circulating system in the collecting trough is mounted above the level of the heating element whilst the inlet for the waste or drainage system is mounted below this level so that the liquid level never drops below that of the heating element with the result that overheating cannot occur which would otherwise damage parts of the machine. The effective drainage level for the casing of the waste water pump is above the level determined by the inlet opening for the circulation system and is connected to the collecting trough at this height.
