摘要 <p>A perforated plate pulsed column for contacting two immiscible liqs. to effect mass transfer between them e.g. in solvent extn., is fitted with a number of coalescing plates periodically alternating between the perforated plates. The coalescing plates have vanes which are formed by cutting the surface and turning up a piece along a radial fold so that the piece makes an angle of 20 degrees with the surface of the plate. All the vanes in a plate are turned up on the same side of the plate and in the same sense so as not to impede the fluid flow. They are cut again radially, approximately in half, to give a free surface the vertical projection of which is at least equal to the free surface of the perforated plates. There may be four vanes along four radial lines in the form of a cross or the vanes may be arranged in concentric circles. The retention, i.e., the volumetric fraction occupied by the dispersed phase in the emulsion, is greater and more regular the specific flow is greater and the operation is more stable.</p>
