The two measurement quantities of the speed of travel and the flow volume of petrol are supplied to the instrument by mechanical means and by electrical means respectively. The measured quantities influence the X or Y axis of a coordinate system. The transmission elements of the mechanical and electrical sections operate on the principle of a tachometer. An orifice plate connected to the petrol supply serves as a volume flow meter. The plus or minus side of the orifice plate is connected to the ends of a U-tube which is filled with mercury. The U-tube contains a calibrated, electric resistance coil. The instrument may be separately or may be integrated with an engine rev. counter.
