Oil removed from water/solid surfaces - using powdered, water-insol lignin which is ultimately useful as a fuel

Oil is removed from water at solid surfaces by absorbing it in powdered, water-insol. lignin (prodt., e.g., in the saccharification of wood). The oil-impregnated lignin is then removed from the water surface by fine-mesh nets/-sieves or from the solid surfaces by sweeping together, the oil recovered by expressing the lignin or by distillation while the residue in both cases is useful as a fuel.
