The obstacle for horse jumping exercises comprises pivotable side barriers connected by a central horizontal barrier in the form of a bar, hurdle or fence. The side barriers are mounted rotatably at their lower ends, and connected to a damped, gas-operated compression or tension spring which engages a baseplate and the lower end of the side barrier which may consist of a post mounted in the block connected to the baseplate.
