The system to prepare a broken yarn end for reinsertion into an open-end spinning chamber, to be spliced into the end of newly-spun yarn, uses a roughened roller which is brought into contact with the yarn to untwist the threads. The mechanical end loosening ensures that yarns of all gauges are opened up to give the same character as the end of the newly-spun yarn for a firm and unobtrusive splice.
